Our award-winning country pub with 10 rooms is in the picturesque village of Rickling Green, Essex. Found between the market towns of Bishops Stortford and Saffron Walden, and just a 10-15 minute drive from Stansted Airport, so close enough for a quick get-away but far enough away to just hear the birds, not the planes! Some might say, we’re perfectly located for business and leisure stays alike.
We proudly serve seasonal menus, crafted by our talented Head Chef and Owner, Harry Kodagoda, featuring local ingredients, real ales, and a brilliant little wine list. We invite you to enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner with us every day, and we’re delighted to have been awarded 1 AA Rosette for culinary excellence. You can book your table with us here.
In the summer months, you can dine al fresco overlooking the picturesque cricket green or settle inside our stylish, traditional restaurant. We welcome families, children of all ages, and even those with muddy paws! Our pub is also available for private functions, including wedding receptions, wakes, and parties. Want to host a special occasion here? Get in touch and our team will be in touch to make your special day more than just a day to remember.

From the food, to the service, atmosphere and regular schedule of events, we can't go wrong. Whether its the sunday roast, the seasonal changing menus, or curry and quiz night, the flavours and attention to detail on each plate is fantastic each time. Thank you to all the team for continuing to create a lovely welcoming place in our village x C BTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a very nice lunch here! If you’re heading north on the M11 and find yourself contemplating lunch at a motorway services, do yourself a favour: keep driving and make the short detour to The Cricketers Arms. We chose it as a more civilised alternative to eating at the services and were VERY glad we did. Instead of fluorescent lighting, plastic tables and a slightly depressing sandwich, we found a gorgeous country pub, excellent food and a very decent pint. This is how breaking up a long journey should be done! Lunch was absolutely superb. Proper, beautifully cooked food, great ingredients, generous portions and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Add in a good selection of beers and friendly service and suddenly our quick lunch stop became one of the highlights of the journey. But then we discovered The Cricketers Arms has another trick up its sleeve. They have rooms available from around £80 AND offer airport parking for just £5 per day. Given how close it is to Stansted Airport, that immediately got our attention. Stay the night, have a lovely meal and a few drinks, get a decent night’s sleep, leave the car there and head off to the airport the following morning. That sounds considerably more appealing than starting a holiday at 4am in an airport car park! It’s one of those places you discover almost by accident and immediately file away in your brain under “remember this one”. So whether you’re travelling up or down the M11, flying from Stansted, or simply looking for a cracking country pub for lunch, The Cricketers Arms is well worth the detour.
